The gameplay, as you might expect, follows the JRPG mould, with an overworld to grind through and towns to traverse, cinematic cutscenes, and turn-based gameplay. Whatever anime genre you prefer, there’s an anime-inspired game for you. The thing that sets Ni No Kuni apart from most JRPGs is how meticulously each element is crafted. The storey is deeply moving, the exceptional Studio Ghibli-drawn art has aged beautifully (especially with the PS4 remaster), and progressing through the storey requires minimal grinding – even less if sidequests are completed.
24. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
One of the most exciting aspects of the first Ni No Kuni game was the fact that Level-5 collaborated with the legendary Studio Ghibli on its design and much of its animation. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom has no further involvement with Studio Ghibli, but the art style remains true to the original while also taking advantage of the PS4 extended graphic capabilities. You take on the role of Roland, a man who, after being drawn into the “other world,” finds himself in the midst of a coup. He must defend the usurped young king and assist him in regaining control of his kingdom. The gameplay is enjoyable, but the main draw is the art style. It is one of the most popular anime games on the PS4. It retains all of the Ghibli-charm of its predecessor and keeps us wanting more.
23. Melty Blood
Few people are likely to be familiar with the visual novel game Tsukihime, but the game will be remade for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2021. Melty Blood’s storey may be confusing due to the lack of context, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the best anime fighting games available. More than 30 characters from Tsukihime and other Type-Moon visual novels appear in the Melty Blood series. 22. Gravity Rush 2

Gravity Rush 2, on the other hand, expands on those mechanics by providing even more ways for creative players to approach fights and other obstacles. 21. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
The Danganronpa series is known for its outrageous mysteries, ludicrously convoluted plotlines, and distinct art style. Although destroying Harmony doesn’t do anything new that it didn’t do in the first two instalments, it still does it better than any other game on the market. You play a student trapped inside Hope’s Peak Academy, a high school designed for the “ultimate students.” In this game, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, you are regarded as one of the best Japan has to offer, but when you and your classmates are trapped in a murder game, everything goes wrong. The only way to survive is to solve the murders of your classmates.
20. Code Vein
It’s easy to see why Code Vein has been dubbed the “anime Dark Souls” by fans and critics alike. There are souls to collect, giant monsters to fight, long attack animations, and clear criteria for avoiding enemy blows. For fans of the Souls games, there will be a lot to love about Code Vein, but I believe focusing too heavily on that analogy does a disservice to all of the ways Code Vein defines itself. The storey takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where vampire-like creatures known as Revenants raise monsters. In a hack-and-slash game, you control the player’s attacks and special abilities, while AI controls the other characters in the party. There are more automated options, but that eliminates the need to manually string combo inputs. Velvet, a vengeance-driven demon who finally helps save the world, is the main protagonist in this storey set in the Holy Midgang Empire. Although the storey is a little darker, I think the JRPG setting is a nice change of pace. A cast of stereotypical characters joins her, but they are likeable characters who teach her the value of friendship to compensate for it. Because Tales of Berseria is a prequel to Tales of Zestiria, both games’ Easter eggs and storey beats can be enjoyed by both players.
17. Persona 5: Royal
Persona 5 has everything you could want in a JRPG: monster collection, turn-based fighting, social simulation, and a lively cast of side characters to share the world with. It’s as if Atlus looked at any other popular JRPG, picked out their best mechanics, and then rolled them all together until they were properly balanced. Because of the features in this game, it has become one of the most popular PS4 anime games. Persona 5 comes with a plethora of styling options. Everything about this film screams “nice,” from the pop-noir colour palette of red and black to the modern-jazz soundtrack. All of the character designs are excellent, riffing on the idea of their Mementos costumes and reflecting who they truly are in human society beneath the masks (or personas) they wear.
16. Arslan: The Warriors of Legend
Arslan: The Warriors of Legend is a Warriors-style hack and slash game based on The Heroic Legend of Arslan, a fairly old fantasy novel series adapted into a manga in 2013 by Full Metal Alchemist author and artist Hiromu Arakawa. 13. Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions
Captain Tsubasa’s anime in certain regions of the world was massive in the 1980s and 1990s. Decades later, Captain Tsubasa: New Champions’ Rise – a faithful adaptation to the whole over-the-top soccer game would be revived. Rise of the Champions is close to being a complete Captain Tsubasa package with lots of teams and characters from the anime, even if stop-start gameplay has become a bit stable over time. The Story-mode of the game covers the original plot, while other modes allow you to play freely or make your own hero with the many hairy superstars of the game.
12. Berserk and the Band of the Hawk
Berserk and the Band of the Hawk is an attempt to turn Kentaro Miura’s legendary manga series into a hack and slash action title — and the results are decent. Guts and co. rip and tear their way through hordes of enemy soldiers and demonic beasts in this, by far, the bloodiest Warriors-style game on the market best anime games ps4. 10. Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet
There are some Sword Art Online games on PS4, but Sword Art Online is the most sophisticated in the group for our money. It is an action RPG that you play as your own person, who ends up joining Kirito and his friends. The structure of the game is round a hub, where you accept tasks and modernise your gear before going into open maps to shoot monsters, experience farming and plunder. The shooting is getting a little bit familiar, but the fighters who embrace combat mechanics expect a surprisingly enjoyable grind.
9. Steins;Gate Elite
Steins;Gate Elite is a fantastic visual novel adapted from the famous series of Steins;Gate—which deals with every science, such as time travel. Some great cartoons, a storey mode (which encompasses a large part of the original piece and an addictive gameplay loop), made us long, long-lastingly play Pirate Warriors 3. Attack against Titan 2 is a very satisfying RPG action, based on the very popular attack against Titan manga and anime.
